How often should you mow?

For most home lawns, every 2 to 3 weeks is a good rhythm. In the rainy season grass grows fast and may need cutting every 1 to 2 weeks, while in the cooler, drier months you can stretch it to once a month. The rule of thumb is to mow before the grass gets tall and floppy rather than on a fixed date.

• Rainy season (roughly May–October): every 1–2 weeks
• Cool/dry season: every 3–4 weeks
• Never remove more than about one-third of the blade height in a single cut

The right cutting height

Cutting too short — 'scalping' — exposes the soil, invites weeds and dries the lawn out. For common Thai turf grasses, keeping the blade around 3–5 cm after mowing keeps the lawn healthy and shades out weed seeds. Leaving it a touch longer in hot spells also helps the lawn hold moisture.

Watering, feeding and weeding

Mowing is only part of the picture. Water deeply but less often to encourage deep roots, feed a few times a year, and pull or treat weeds early before they spread. A lawn that is mowed, watered and fed on a schedule will stay noticeably thicker and greener.
